what are you searching for today? |Daily Post #8|

What are you searching for today?

I used to think that living a life of doing whatever is what "frees" me. To have so much money without any issue. To have no rules or guidance. To let go of my inhibitions. I used to think that releasing every carnal whims of my desires can fulfill me. And yet is that really the case?

In around 1880, Fernand Cormon's showed this picture of "Cain",

"

This painting illustrates the miserable destiny of Cain, the elder son of Adam and Eve, who after the murder of his younger brother Abel was condemned to perpetual wandering. A haggard Cain is doggedly leading his tribe. On the wooden stretcher carried by his sons sits a bewildered woman with her dazed children. Chunks of bleeding meat are hung on the stretcher. Other men, the hunters, are trudging alongside. One is carrying a young woman in his arms and stray dogs bring up the rear. Fear of Jehovah's sentence is written on every face.

"

And yet after reflecting on my past life, I too was like Cain. Impulsive. Ambiguous. Wavering. And restless.

Sometimes, by God's mercy, the sins we commit are not instantly judged like Cain. As the story goes, Cain's treacherous murder of Abel should've resulted in his death. And yet. God allowed evil men to "flourish" in a worldly sense not because God is powerless. But because. God's judgment comes through a prolonged curses towards such men:

When you work the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.” Genesis 4:12🔪🌍

And Cain did just that. He kept working and always feeling tired. No longer yielding strength. Letting the days pass by, yet unable to escape the cruel fate of life. Searching and searching as a "fugitive" of this earth. Having nothing that will ever satisfy his searching soul. Isn't just like us though?

We try to fill that 'hole' in our hearts with love, money, food, friends, work, etc. Yet something feels missing. A restlessness that can't be explained. If you're reading this, and feeling lost or seeking and wandering for something in your life, you've come to the right place.

On the outside, you might have popularity, wealth, career, etc. But you know that there is something missing. Yet somewhere deep down you also know that God sees you, me, and everyone for who they are.

Cain's consequences of murder resulted in his punishment. His guilt and fear of God's consequence written on his face. Yet, maybe you've also committed sin like Cain. Did you know that harboring hate is a sin? It's the same as murdering someone from inside our hearts even if we haven't done the deed.

Or maybe, you have a hidden sin that no one knows off.

Whatever it is, please I urge you, today is the day to repent and know that your hidden sins and very existence are at odds with our holy and righteous Lord. That you too will be judged. So will I. As I know that I am a sinner that has offended the Lord. For I know that the wages of sin is death. And that time is sooner than I have expected.

And if you read this and maybe have your hearts compelled, know that it's not too late. Know that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on that Cross and His resurrection is the only way. He has conquered death, and redeemed and saved us. All you need to do is to repent of your sins and trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior... Would you commit today to say that you want to follow Jesus?

And only through Christ will you experience the true peace and love that will fill that void.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for another day. Lord, You see how we are all wandering little people. Making ourselves busy busy busy, yet what are we truly searching for? In our busyness, we know that we are filling a hole that can't be filled with whatever this world gives. Please Lord, forgive us for we have sinned against You and and You only. You see us and know us. Please help us and redeem us once more, to live our lives in fulfilment through Christ alone..

Thank You for filling that empty hole in my life. I tried filling it with harta (money), tahta (power), and wanita (women) and all sorts of other things (family, knowledge, etc). Yet I have seen that it all yields to emptiness. Vanity of all vanities. And yet in knowing Christ have I experienced a peace and fulfillment that compares to no other. As Jesus said,

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" John 7:37-38💧✝️

Thank You Jesus, please fill my void once more. Because only You can quench this thirst. And in You, O Lord, do I hope🕊️. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
