the self-righteous men |Quotes #1|

Updated: Jun 16, 2021

This is the first entry for Quotes. Thank You Jesus for the inspiration and opportunity that started at around December 29, 2020. Whenever I find a quote or saying that invokes my heart from theologians, pastors, or even other brothers and sisters in Christ, I just can't find good quality images with the text. The question becomes, why not make it ourselves?

Hence, pesanpesan.co's Quotes will be a collection of Bible verses or commentaries or any other good quotes visualized. In every page we will try to:

-reference the Bible verse(s)

-show the quote(s)

-include the downloadable picture (please share!🙂)

Finally, as in all great things. We believe in the inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture. Another way of saying that the Bible is never wrong, it is the foundational most credible source, useful and true. We believe in Sola Scripture or through Scripture Alone can we understand other Scriptures. We try hard too let the Bible speak for itself and the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts to lead us to the Truth because...God's Word is perfect as always.🤗

You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, so that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I am commanding you. Deuteronomy 4:2 📖

the self-righteous men

“Moreover, self-righteous men, like foxes, have many tricks and schemes. They condemn in other people what they consider to be very excusable in themselves. They would cry out against others for a tenth part of the sin which they allow in themselves: certain constitutional tendencies, and necessities of circumstances, and various surroundings, all serve as ample apologies. Besides this, if it be admitted that they are wrong upon some points, yet in other directions they are beyond rebuke. If they drink, they do not swear; and if they swear, they do not steal: they make a great deal out of negatives: if they steal, they are not greedy and miserly, but spend their gains freely. If they practice fornication, yet they do not commit adultery; if they talk filthily, yet they boast they do not lie. They would be counted well because they are not universally bad. They do not break every hedge, and therefore they plead that they are not trespassers. As if a debtor for a hundred pounds should claim to be excused because he does not owe two hundred: or, as if a highwayman should say, ‘I did not stop all the travelers on the road; I only robbed one or two, and therefore I ought not to be punished.’ If a man should willfully break the windows of your shop, I warrant you, you would not take it as an excuse if he pleaded, ‘I did not break them all; I only smashed one sheet of plate glass.’ Pleas which would not be mentioned in a human court are thought good enough to offer to God. O the folly of our race!

Reflection

Dear Lord, what a challenging week this has been. The irony is—"For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate." Yet thankYou Father for pulling me back from my prideful heart. In my own haughtiness I was blinded. O Lord. Some time ago, Romans 10:20 touched my heart💗. As Isaiah's prophesied:

Judgment and Salvation

I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me;

I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me.

I said, “Here I am, here I am,”

to a nation that was not called by my name.

I spread out my hands all the day

to a rebellious people,

who walk in a way that is not good,

following their own devices;

a people who provoke me

to my face continually,

sacrificing in gardens

and making offerings on bricks;

who sit in tombs,

and spend the night in secret places;

who eat pig's flesh,

and broth of tainted meat is in their vessels;

who say, “Keep to yourself,

do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.”

These are a smoke in my nostrils,

a fire that burns all the day.

Behold, it is written before me:

“I will not keep silent, but I will repay;

I will indeed repay into their lap

both your iniquities and your fathers' iniquities together,

says the Lord;

because they made offerings on the mountains

and insulted me on the hills,

I will measure into their lap

payment for their former deeds.”

Isaiah 65:1-7 🤢🤮

This verse stricken me:

I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me;

I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me.

All this time You have extended Your gracious hand saying "Here I am". Towards us whom never knew You. All the day long. For us who walked in our selfish ways. In the darkness we have provoked, revolted, and cursed Your gracious name. Thinking that we don't need You and is 'holy'. 😱. In Your righteousness You will incur thy Holy wrath on our blaspheming hearts. And yet.. In my broken vile state, where I can't save myself. You came.😭 To this delusional fool who rejected You. Knowing now how in peril I was.😔. Knocking at death's door. And yet You have saved me! My Redeemer! ThankYou Jesus for crushing my ego again. I never asked off You or sought to find You. Because who in their sinful flesh would do such a thing? Yet thankYou for humbling this Self-Righteous man to know Christ once more. My Savior and Lord. 👑. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
