Hokkaido Girls Are Super Adorable & Predestination |Media #9|

So there's this manga called: Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi or translated to Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!


In this one scene Fuyuki, Akino and Shiki are having a study lesson preparing for their exam.

To which Shiki asks,



"What's the name of the Christian Theological Doctrine advocated by Calvin that says God's will is absolute, and one's salvation has been determined in advance?"



As Akino replied,


"Oh! Destination! It's predestination!"



It's quite surprising how a slice-of-life manga would bring up this topic. Yet I thank the Lord for the subtle reminder towards me. Which got me thinking... what is exactly predestination? Is it simply that everything in my life has been determined before-hand by God?


Well, let's first look. Oxford Dictionary defines: (as a doctrine in Christian theology) the divine foreordaining of all that will happen, especially with regard to the salvation of some and not others. It has been particularly associated with the teachings of St. Augustine of Hippo and of Calvin.

Yet what does the Bible say it is?

even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, Ephesians 1:4-5 🌍☀️

The first comes from Ephesians in which our Lord chose us before even the conception of the world. As God is the Alpha and Omega (Revelations 1:8), He has predestined each believer or people of "true Israel" as His chosen nation way before the existence of life itself. To do what exactly? For the purpose of His will of course. As we know that the Lord's judgment will come to all. Yet in parallel, He will ultimately redeem the world through the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our inheritance and blessing as to be the first to hope in Christ is ultimately to glorify Him:

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,
so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:11-12 🌟

Lastly, Romans give more evidence to this:

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Romans 8:28-30 🧍✝️⭐

Sometimes I forget that my redemption isn't just a random happening. God's irresistible grace and calling in my life will run its course. He called me by His grace, and by faith in Jesus Christ I am justified. One day when my Lord Jesus returns, I believe that His remnant will also be glorified. Not by our goodness. But by the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ. Who has lived the perfect live and in that hope I rejoice rejoice rejoice.

 

Dear Lord Jesus,

Lord, thank You for another day. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Lord, You see me as I am. All the crap and dirt and sins. And yet O Lord why do You love me so? Why do You entrust me with so much? Who am I? O Lord, that You are willing to shape me day by day. Who am I? I am but a little kid who keeps failing and wasting away my life. Yet Lord, You pull me back back and back and back again. In my weakness, You love me and push me to go on. Thank You Jesus for this lesson on predestination. I learnt how my journey isn't just these last few years, it was from before the existence of the world. And in that I thank Your amazing predestination. I don't feel entrapped or bounded by it. I feel taken care off. In this world, You give us free will, but in all that free will You continue to guard me. Protect me from myself. I thank You for another day O Lord, to praise You. To glorify You. All awaiting for the return of Jesus Christ again. And in that hope, thank You Jesus... Soli Deo Gloria...!
